Braxton Mondell went to UCF for business and dropped out, for a reason most professors would hate and most founders would respect: he was already running a company. It helped timeshare owners turn their unused points into income on short-term rental platforms, and in its first year he personally managed more than 800 reservations. That is an operations education no lecture hall can offer.

He joined day one. Then he struggled.

When Obada started Checkmate Financial Group, Braxton left his own company to join as a founding agent on day one, one of the four people selling life insurance out of Obada’s house before there was an office. He showed up with no formal sales experience. Selling vacation stays is not selling life insurance, and the phones humbled him for a long time. He stayed anyway. He kept working until consistent sales stopped being a milestone and started being a Tuesday.

Then Obada noticed what else he could do.

Obada had watched the work ethic up close. He also recognized the technical ability and the business mindset that built the first company, and he started handing Braxton responsibility beyond the phones. The responsibilities kept growing until the job had a new shape entirely: full time on the direction and day-to-day operations of the company.

He builds the machine.

Braxton runs the part of the agency nobody sees and everybody feels. He builds and maintains the systems that let agents walk in and do what they do best, sell at a high level, without ever fighting their own tools. He drives growth and helps guide the direction of the company. Since those living-room days, Checkmate has grown from four people to more than 700 agents. He is quick to say he cannot do it without Obada. Obada is just as quick to say Braxton is one of the few people whose dedication comes anywhere near his own.

My job is making it effortless for great people to do their best work. And to turn the volume up while they do it.

Sales floor DJ.

Ask him for his official duties and the list runs long: operations, growth, systems, standards, direction. Ask the floor and they will add the one that matters most: Braxton is the sales floor DJ. The deals close better with a soundtrack, and the soundtrack is his. It fits a company that takes the work seriously without ever taking itself too seriously.

They let me pick the music and run the company. Bold of them, honestly.
The reputation

What he is known for

Making hard things look effortless. Agents show up, the tools work, the floor has energy, and the company keeps growing: none of that is an accident, and most of it routes through Braxton. The work ethic is the part Obada noticed first. The floor would tell you the playlist is the part they noticed first. Both are correct.

On the road

The work travels with him.
