The moment the policy
has to do its job.
Losing someone is enough to carry. A licensed agent handles the claim with you, from the first call to the carrier’s decision, in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.
Three steps. We stay on all of them.
Call us first
One call starts everything. We confirm the policy, explain what the carrier will ask for, and open the claim. If you would rather contact the carrier directly, we will give you the exact number and stay available.
We gather the paperwork
Usually a certified death certificate, the carrier’s claim form, and the beneficiary’s ID. We help you complete the forms correctly the first time, so the review is not delayed by paperwork.
The carrier reviews and pays
The claim is reviewed and paid by the issuing carrier under the policy’s terms. We track the status, push when it stalls, and translate every letter into plain English until the check is in the right hands.
What the carrier will ask for.
- A certified copy of the death certificate (funeral homes provide these)
- The policy number, if you have it. If not, we can help you find it
- Government-issued ID for each beneficiary
- The carrier’s claim form, which we will complete together
Requirements vary by carrier and state. A licensed agent will confirm the exact list for your policy on the first call.
Asked in hard weeks, answered straight.
How long does a claim take?
It depends on the carrier, the state, and how complete the paperwork is. Straightforward claims with a certified death certificate often move quickly; carriers may take longer when a policy is newer or documents are missing. We stay on the claim with you and chase the status so you do not have to.
What if I can't find the policy documents?
Call us anyway. If the policy was written through Checkmate, we can identify the carrier and policy from our records. If it was written elsewhere, we will help you search, starting with bank statements for premium payments and the carrier’s policy-locator services.
Who receives the payout?
The beneficiaries named on the policy, as it is written. If you are not sure who is named, or a beneficiary has passed away, a licensed agent will walk you through how the carrier handles it and what documentation applies.
Does Checkmate charge for claim help?
No. Helping your family through a claim is part of the job, whether or not we wrote the policy. There is no fee for claims assistance.
We’ll take it from here.
