Davy Lima
Vice President of Sales
He showed up to a coffee meeting hoping to land a client. He left unemployed, on purpose, as a founding agent of Checkmate.

Davy Lima got into insurance because of a conversation at the gym. A guy between sets told him what he did for a living, and Davy joined the industry right away as a captive health agent. Then reality introduced itself: his first sale took three months. Most people quit somewhere inside a stretch like that. Davy treated it as tuition.
Three years to number one.
After a few months he moved into Medicare sales and stayed three years, climbing the ranks the whole way. He finished his final year as the number one producer in the company. The man who needed three months for his first sale had become the one everybody else was chasing.
He came for a client. He left unemployed.
Davy and Obada had been friends years earlier, and they reconnected just as Obada was preparing to start the company. Davy showed up to their coffee meeting with his own agenda: pitch Obada on letting him handle the mortgages for his renovation projects. Obada had a bigger pitch. He laid out the plan for Checkmate Financial Group, and Davy quit his job on the spot to join as a founding agent. He walked in hoping for a new client. He walked out unemployed, on purpose.
Four people in a living room.
The earliest days were four people working out of Obada’s house: Obada, Davy, Braxton, and Liz, trying to figure out how to sell life insurance. None of them had done it before. They figured it out together, got an office, brought in more agents, and built the sales process from the ground up alongside Obada. That same process is what hundreds of Checkmate agents run today.
I quit my job on the spot because I believed in it that much. Now my job is helping every agent on this floor sell with that same belief.
The floor is his scoreboard.
Today Davy is Vice President of Sales, responsible for the performance of the agents as a whole. He sets the standards, coaches producers through the calls that matter, watches the numbers daily, and develops closers into leaders. New agents still earn the seat next to him to hear what a great call sounds like.
What he is known for
Conviction you can hear. Davy coaches by showing: how to open, how to take a no, how to slow down for a nervous family. The seat next to him is the best classroom in the building, and the floor performs because he takes its performance personally.
